A for August and Açaí

01 Aug , 2018

All of my best days start with Dawn; much less my best months. Happy August 🎉

This is definitely the longest post I've ever written about what I do professionally. I tried to write everything simply so that it could be understood. This is certainly not a sales pitch, I'm just hoping to shed some light on a few topics I've studied at great length. 🔦📚

As background information, Dawn is a supplement that I created start to finish and have full confidence in.

When I started Helio I'd been taking supplements every morning for years but didn't love my food options (eggs, bacon, oats, protein shakes, etc.). All of these things have imperfections, and what I was after was the perfect morning routine.

I wanted a "supplement" that had real caloric value. I wanted fat for cognition and satiation, protein for muscle development, fiber for bowel cleanliness, and superfoods for vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. And, it had to be vegan.

I've worked for two years developing Helio products and the culmination of all my work is our new açaí bowl. This is the world's only keto friendly açaí bowl. That means we've limited the sugar, and overcompensated the healthy fats, upped the vegan protein, and deliberately included insoluble gut cleansing fiber.

Breakfast has been taken to a new level!

Dawn Explained:

FAT for cognition and satiation. What does that mean?

Well, the brain is 60% fat. And, ever since I started drinking @bulletproof coffee and BHB ketones I learned the power of supplemental fat. The brain absolutely loves it. You're smarter than you knew possible, your mood is amazing, you see clearly (like intentions, not vision). It's the most wonderful state to operate in. You'll be amazed at how dehydrated your brain has been most of your life! (that was my experience)

The brain is metabolically the most expensive organ, so we might as well feed it calorically rich fat.

Fats are the most calorically rich food. Meaning by weight, they have the most energy. Another way to look at it: By stomach surface area, you get the most energy.

On average, fats have 9 calories per gram. Protein and Carbs have 4 calories per gram. By eating fat, you just simply have more fuel. So you can eat less (by weight), yet still have equal or greater energy.

Fats are also required for healthy hormones. Saturated fat and cholesterol literally make testosterone and other essential hormones. It's when other circumstances come into play that sat fat and cholesterol can be problematic (obesity, chronic stress, smoking, etc). But as a healthy dude, I've found huge hormonal benefits to upping my lipids (fats).

PROTEIN obviously builds lean muscle, and in many circumstances, the amount of lean muscle you develop in your youth will determine lifespan. (As well as increased ability to talk with women). Both are equally important. We must work out/exercise and have protein in our breakfast. It's a no-brainer.

However, protein alone won't satiate you until lunch. Protein is made up of amino acid peptides. Amino Acids have very specific functions. There are 18 amino acids, 9 of them are essential. The primary functions of these amino acids are not to cause satiety. They are busy doing other things. Protein isn't meant to be used as metabolic fuel, to me, it's obvious just looking at the laborious metabolic pathway it must go through to be converted into fuel.

Protein is the least efficient macronutrient in creating real human energy.

I love protein, don't read this the wrong way. The main reason I'm saying this is to pat Dawn on the back. We've used fat and fiber to suppress ghrelin (hunger hormone), which allows all of the bioavailable vegan protein in Dawn to be used more efficiently.

That's one of the reasons why this product is so good. It's efficient and intelligently designed.

SUGAR. It honestly blows my mind that the culture has accepted sugar for breakfast aka cereal, granola, bagel, etc. Sugar, even the best kinds, must be burnt rather quickly. Excessive sugar that isn't burned always gets stored as triglycerides (aka body fat). Most of us sit all morning in our offices.

It's easy math. Sugary breakfast + seated, non-exercising posture = fat storage.

Sugar is one type of carbohydrate. There are four types of carbs; sugar, fiber, starches, and oligosaccharides (fermented foods). I'm not going to discuss starches or fermented foods on this post - but both are good for different reasons. We can get into that later if y'all are interested. The purpose of this is to encourage you to avoid sugar in your breakfast.

Another type of carbohydrate and my personal favorite is FIBER. Fiber cleanses gut. My background in health, before Helio, was internal cleansing. The GI tract is absolutely 110% the most important group of cells in your body. Think about it - outside of the air we breathe, and the water we drink, every single molecule of fuel that our body runs on passes through the GI tract. That's a huge responsibility, and with all that processing the gut, especially the colon, can get very toxic.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the understanding is that all emotions have a physical resting place in the body. Anger stored in the liver, Love stored in the heart, etc. Well, intuition is stored in the gut; hence "gut feeling."

I find that with a clean bowel, I see the world more clearly, small things stay small things, and I have a higher sense of the world being in the right order. It's when our guts are toxic, our interpretation of the world is also toxic.

I bet you that the most negative people you know do not poop enough.

Fiber helps you poop. And with how toxic much our food is, cleansing through the bowel is hugely important to restore homeostasis. You gotta get that shit out.

Dawn's fiber pulls toxins to it. Because we use insoluble chia fiber, the gelatinous mass never leaves the GI tract, and simply acts as a washcloth, cleaning your insides and cleansing the bowel. The result is firm, solid, wonderful elimination 😇💩

The last category of Dawn that we are deeply about is SUPERFOODS. We have 10 superfoods on our site that everyone should be consuming, along with our Greens blend, but while we're discussing Dawn... 👇

Not only is açaí trendy af right now, but it's also nutritionally huge. Ever wonder how I grew such luscious hair? Yes, açaí feeds hair, skin, and nail. It's known as the Brazilian beauty berry for good reason. Açaí carries an abnormally high antioxidant score (which is why it's also an ingredient in our Greens blend), as well as an impressive concentration of vitamins and minerals. Açaí also boosts brain function due it's high concentration of essential fatty acids (Omega 3, 6, & 9).

Also, açaí is beautiful and purple and mega tasty. So why not? 😄

Launching this product is a big-time accomplishment for me. It's everything you need, and nothing you don't. I believe that this product is mainstream ready. It tastes amazing (smoothie directions on the jar), it is leading the charge on many nutritional fronts that are catching on, and will continue to catch on (vegan, keto, fiber), and it has the most amazing packaging 🤩

If you don't drink Dawn, you should. But that's not why I posted this. I've been in the lab grinding on sourcing, testing flavors, and nutrient potency, working the math on nutrition panel perfection, running business logistics, and managing growth.

This is what I do, and I felt it was time for an update.

Thank you so much for taking the time to be interested in Helio. Of course, I'd love it if you too started caring about your breakfast with Dawn, but your support means more than anything. So that's fine too.

🥂 to health,

Benton
